A major milestone has been reached at the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, where RWE has successfully completed the installation of all 100 SG 14-222 DD turbines. Each of Sofia’s 100 turbines stands 252m tall at its highest point, with 108m-long turbine blades and a 222m rotor diameter.

Our Modular Blade Yoke 1 (MBY1) was used throughout the blade installation, handling a total of 300 blades. Originally developed as a prototype, the MBY1 has proven its reliability and performance under real offshore conditions, completing the installation without downtime or operational issues.

In addition to the MBY, our Tower Grippers, Travers system and Tagline Master system stabilizer have been used in the installation as well.

The Sofia Offshore Wind Farm is one of the UK’s largest offshore wind projects. Once fully operational, Sofia will be capable of generating 1.4GW of renewable electricity, enough to power approximately 1.2 million typical UK homes.
